Dear Diary Boy recalls the struggles and joys I experienced when I sent my son to a competitive elementary school in Tokyo. I tell the story with excerpts from his diaries.

That sudden wind that crashed into me from the side is the weak point of a bike. Going home was surprisingly easy. That’s because it was a tailwind. A tailwind is the same direction you are going. On the way over, it was a headwind. The headwind goes in the opposite direction. A tailwind feels like you are riding on a wave, and it’s fun. When a headwind comes, I stand up on my bike to survive. This must be one of the easiest things in life. I think there are going to be harder things in life in the future.
